Las Vegas

Aug 1 – 3
Not much I can say about Vegas that hasn't already been said – and because I didn't do a whole lot there. It's a city of superlatives and as we drove into town in daylight we decided it was definitely a dump but we were going to have fun anyway. We stayed at Circus Circus – don't stay there. We stayed there because it was super cheap & had free parking – and while the room was clean, it was a far cry from any kind of Vegas experience you see advertised – exactly like a motel in any other city – which correlates because we paid about the same price as a motel in any other city.

We went to a fancy dinner at The Venetian – we were really late, but they still seated us & the food was delish. The wine & Moscow Mule cocktails too – too delish in retrospect J. After dinner, we hit a couple of bars which seemed v quiet to us (it was only about midnight & a Sunday night to boot), and after that things get hazy.... Needless to say the next day was spent in bed recovering from one of my usual hangovers (those that know me well enough need no further explanation...those who don't – you don't want to know).

The only show we both had any interest in attending was Cirque de Soleil's Viva Elvis but it was not showing on Sunday or Monday nights so we didn't want to pay out substantial cash for shows we weren't really interested in. Although we did see signs for upcoming concerts – one in particular catching my eye (picture below is for my cousin Amy ;)).

Tuesday morning before we left we decided to spend some time gambling – or I should say attempting to gamble. Basically I am not a gambler – way too risk adverse – losing money just doesn't interest me J not even the chance of winning big will entice me to risk substantial sums. I much prefer the lottery J. The poker & blackjack tables intimidated us, so after registering with the casino we started out with slot machines. One of Melissa's friends told her that Vegas always looks after first timers J and so Vegas did! Melissa won $90 after putting in just a couple of bucks into various machines. V was not quite so kind to me – although I don't understand why – last time I was here I was too young to gamble – I lost about half of the $30 I put into the machines. After that we decided gambling was boring (well, slot machines anyway), we still didn't want to try poker/blackjack so we hit the road without any crazy Vegas stories to tell J.
